Children’s Sedation Dentistry for Roy, UT

Going to the dentist with an anxious or fidgety child can be difficult. It isn’t uncommon for children of all ages to have a fear of going to the dentist. Even simple procedures, such as teeth cleaning, can be difficult for a nervous child. The experts at Castle Creek Pediatric Dentistry have a solution. We provide sedation dentistry for your children, so they can have a relaxing visit at the dentist. We’ve offered oral sedation for children all across Roy, UT. Let us help your child.

Nitrous Oxide for Pediatric Sedation

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is one of the most commonly used sedation dentistry methods. When we use nitrous oxide, your children will be awake and calm during their appointment. We administer nitrous oxide through a mask attached to your child’s nose, giving them a mix of oxygen and nitrous oxide. As soon as the nitrous oxide kicks in, our staff will be able to work without distressing your child. Afterwards, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly.

Oral Sedation

In the case of a more complicated procedure, we recommend administering oral sedation. Your child will need to fast the morning of the procedure. It’s also important to make sure that your child isn’t experiencing any respiratory symptoms at least two weeks before the procedure. For either sedation option, we request that there are two adults present.

IV Sedation & General Anesthesia

Does your child suffer extreme anxiety while at the dentist? Unfortunately, nitrous oxide might not be enough. For those children who might need stronger sedation, we offer IV sedation and general anesthesia. If you decide that IV sedation is best for your child, one of our nurse anesthetists can complete the IV sedation in our office. General anesthesia, on the other hand, must be done in a hospital. This can be completed either at Mount Ogden or Primary Children’s Hospital, depending on your preference or insurance.
