Sedation Dentistry for Kids in Brigham City, UT
It’s common for children to feel anxiety or fear when it’s time to visit the dentist, even for tooth fillings or a simple cleaning. As a pediatric dental office, it’s one of our most challenging aspects, but we understand. At Castle Creek Pediatric Dentistry, we offer children’s sedation dentistry services. We want your kids to feel comfortable and have a positive experience when they come into our office. We provide our services to patients in Brigham City, UT, so come by our office.
Nitrous Oxide as a Pediatric Sedative
Nitrous oxide is one of the more common sedation methods used in a dental office, and it has been around for decades. Many people know it by the name “laughing gas,” and it will help your child by calming them down and making them feel relaxed.
The gas is given to your child by attaching a mask to their nose. Through this attachment they’ll receive a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide, and it work almost immediately. Your child will be awake and aware throughout the procedure, and the gas lasts long enough for the procedure and wears off shortly after.
In the case of a more complicated procedure, an oral sedation will be given. Your child will need to avoid eating before the procedure. Additionally, if your child has been sick recently, we require a two week period where your child isn’t showing any signs of respiratory problems. Oral sedation is a safe practice, but we would like two parents to be available during your child’s visit.
IV Sedation & General Anesthesia
IV sedation and general anesthesia are two other options available. These are used when your child can’t tolerate the procedure in a conventional manner. An IV sedation is done in our office with a nurse anesthetist present. General anesthesia will be done at a hospital, either Mount Ogden or Primary Children’s Hospital. This is dependent on the parents’ choosing, health issues or insurance.
Please contact our office if you have questions or concerns that need to be addressed about anesthesia. We give out a brochure with all the information you need if general anesthesia or IV sedation is being considered. Since 2004, we have completed over 500 IV sedations successfully.
We want every child that comes into our office to have a positive experience, and we do everything we can to provide them that service. If you’re in Brigham City, UT come by and visit our office. To learn more about our sedation dentistry services, give us a call at 801-590-7929 today.
