Cosmetic Dentistry for Kids in North Ogden
Are you looking for gentle and friendly pediatric dentist in the North Ogden area? At Castle Creek Pediatric Dentistry, our team is dedicated to helping your children feel comfortable while getting the cosmetic dentistry services they need.
Here is a list of services we provide to keep your children’s teeth looking white and bright:
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is the most common sedation method we use in our North Ogden clinic. We provide this gas through a small breathing mask situated over your child’s nose. This method is very safe and effective for helping children relax during dental treatments.
Your child may also need oral medication, depending on the length of the procedure and their temperament or physical challenges. Fasting may be required the morning of the procedure, and your child needs to be free of respiratory problems. Often, we ask that two adults be present so that one is able to sit in the back seat with your child on the drive home.
If it is too difficult for your child to sit through an extensive dental treatment, we offer in-office intravenous sedation with one of our nurse anesthetists. Parents are required to be in the room during these types of procedures.
What is Preventive Dental Care for Children?
Having healthy teeth for life starts with the habits we create as children. Teaching your child to brush and floss daily is the most important way to prevent dental problems. We suggest scheduling checkups and cleanings every six months is ideal. Depending on your child’s age, developmental level and the results of the checkup, we may recommend the following treatments:
Sealants for Kids
Sealants are clear, shaded plastic material applied to grooves in the back teeth. Most children’s cavities form in the molars and premolars. This sealant acts as a barrier from food, acid, and plaque. If your child doesn’t have cavities, we recommend sealants for permanent molars, which develop between the ages of about 10 and 13.
Children’s Dental Fillings
Fillings are commonly used to fix cavities in the child’s teeth. In today’s dental world, white porcelain fillings are used more often than silver fillings. However, there are instances when silver fillings are necessary. We will place sealants over the filling for added protection.
Crowns are caps placed over teeth if cavities are too large for a filling. Crowns aren’t commonly needed for children, but can become necessary in cases of severe tooth decay. Crowns can be either tooth-colored or stainless steel. The main purpose of crowns for your children is to help provide structure for the tooth and maintain space for your child’s permanent teeth to grow in properly.
We can help your children become familiar with the proper ways to take care of their teeth with preventative care in between dental visits. We know kids and what encourages healthy habits. We patiently interact with each child and strive to make the visit fun. It may be hard to believe, but it’s true: some children look forward to their dental appointments and ask about them months in advance.
